7 Days to Die on Xbox: Series X|S, V2.6, Crossplay, and the Xbox One Question
The modern 7 Days to Die (V1.0 and the current V2.6 Stable, released April 28, 2026) runs on Xbox Series X and Series S, alongside PC and PlayStation 5. PC currently leads on V2.6 under the post-acquisition Behaviour Interactive and Fun Pimps team, and the console build typically lags PC by a release while the team validates console parity. Check the in-game version screen on your console to confirm which build you are on.
What about Xbox One?
This is the part that confuses most buyers, so it goes first. The current 7 Days to Die did not release on Xbox One. The only Xbox One version is the legacy console release from 2016 (published by Telltale), which was stuck on an early Alpha build, stopped receiving updates years ago, and never became the modern game. It was eventually delisted.
If you are on Xbox One:
-
The old listing is not the current game and will never receive V2.6 or any new content.
-
To play the modern 7 Days to Die on console you need an Xbox Series X or Series S (or a PS5).
-
On PC the game runs the latest builds directly through Steam.
So "an Xbox One update" for the new game is not coming. The realistic paths forward are Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or PC.
Gameplay overview (current console release)
-
Open-world survival horror that blends FPS combat, tower defense, crafting, and RPG progression.
-
Explore biomes up to roughly 100 square kilometers with caves, towns, and POIs.
-
Craft and upgrade 500+ items, from melee and firearms to vehicles and base defenses.
-
Face nearly 60 zombie types that scale in health and damage over time.
-
Blood Moon hordes hit every seventh in-game day; nights are far deadlier than daytime exploration.
Crossplay with PC
-
The current 7 Days to Die supports crossplay between Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) servers running EAC.
-
Console players use the in-game server browser to find PC-hosted servers; direct-IP connection stays PC-only.
-
For crossplay with console clients the host should run a vanilla server, since modded PC servers reject console clients.
-
See the crossplay setup guide for the full configuration.
Buying and Game Pass
-
Buy digitally on the Xbox Store for Series X|S, or stream via Xbox Cloud Gaming with Game Pass Ultimate.
-
Keep both console firmware and the game updated; patches arrive through standard Xbox updates.
-
Active playthroughs continue on Series X|S in 2026, especially in co-op and community servers.
Server hosting for Xbox players
-
Renting a dedicated PC server is the cleanest path to crossplay multiplayer with friends across Xbox Series X|S and PC.
